How it Works

Three steps from request to keys, with the full price in writing before you commit to anything.

  1. Send a request

Tell us the pickup location, dates and the kind of vehicle you need. It's free and doesn't commit you to anything.

  2. Get a written quote

We check availability with rental companies in our partner network and send you a quote with the total price, including taxes, fees and the deposit.

  3. Confirm and drive

If the quote works for you, confirm it. You pick up the vehicle from the rental company and sign their rental agreement at the counter.

Rental requirements

Each rental company sets its own rules, and your quote lists the ones that apply. Most rentals in the US need:

  • A valid driver's license for every driver, usually held for at least one year. Visitors from abroad should bring their passport, and an International Driving Permit if their license isn't in English.
  • Minimum age. Most rental companies rent to drivers 21 and older, and some vehicle classes, such as sports cars and premium SUVs, require 25+. Drivers under 25 usually pay a young-driver fee. A few states set their own age rules.
  • A payment card in the main driver's name. A credit card is the standard for the security deposit. Some rental companies accept debit cards with extra checks.
  • Insurance. Either proof of your own auto insurance or coverage bought from the rental company. See the insurance basics below.

Fees & deposits

Our quotes show the total price, not just a daily rate. Here is what usually makes up that total, so nothing on the counter receipt surprises you:

  • Base rate per day or per week for the vehicle class.
  • Taxes and location fees. State and local taxes, plus airport concession or facility fees for airport pickups.
  • Security deposit. A temporary hold on your card at pickup, released after the vehicle is returned. The amount depends on the rental company and vehicle class, and is stated in your quote.
  • Optional extras such as an additional driver, child seats, a toll pass or GPS, priced in advance only if you ask for them.
  • Situational charges: young-driver fees, one-way drop-off fees, mileage limits, fuel if the car isn't returned at the agreed level, and late returns. Your quote states which apply and how much.

Rates are set by the rental company and change with dates, location and demand. A quote is valid for the period stated on it.

Insurance basics

Rental companies offer several types of coverage at the counter. Before you buy any, check what your personal auto insurance and your credit card already cover for rental cars.

  • Collision / Loss Damage Waiver (CDW/LDW) limits what you pay if the rental car is damaged or stolen.
  • Supplemental Liability (SLI) adds liability protection above the state minimum.
  • Personal Accident and Effects covers medical costs and belongings in the car.

Bookcarsnow.com is not an insurance company and doesn't sell insurance or give insurance advice. Coverage is offered and handled by the rental company.

Pickup and return

Your confirmation tells you the rental company, the counter or lot location, and their opening hours. Bring your license, the payment card and your confirmation. At pickup, walk around the vehicle and note any existing damage on the rental agreement. Return it at the agreed time and fuel level to avoid extra charges.

Changes and cancellations

Before you confirm a quote, you can change or cancel your request at any time at no cost. After you confirm, the rental company's cancellation terms apply. They are written in your quote before you book. Details are in our Terms of Service.

Tell us where and when. We'll find the car.
